Gertrude M. Beauford papers, 1936-1981 (bulk 1972-1978).

This collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, recipes, and photographic prints relating to the history and restoration of the French House, and to the publication of TIGER BAITS RECIPES. Papers also include the memoirs of Anita Olivier Morrison and transcripts of three oral history interview tapes conducted by Gertrude M. Beauford. In addition, a booklet on the history of the French House accompanies an invitation to the 1981 rededication ceremony. There is also a sketch of the building's surrounding landscape (undated). Photographic prints show images of Anita Olivier Morrison, unidentified students, groups, and social events (1936-1956).

The French House (La Maison Française) at Louisiana State University was built in the style of a Renaissance-style Normandy château. It opened in September 1935 to house selected advanced French-language students to live immersed in French language and culture. It served that purpose until 1959 when it became a dormitory for graduate students, then undergraduates, before its closure in 1968.
